A Go Go ’66

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1965 to 1966

Broadcast Medium: Television

The year and the then-current popularity of go-go dancing provided the title for this half hour series, which was hosted by Toronto DJ Mike Darow and featured Robbie Lane and his Disciples doing remarkably skilful recreations of current record hits, while four lithe dancers cavorted wildly in cages up behind the musicians. Recording artists appeared as guests, either live or miming to their latest disc offerings. One of the earliest was David Clayton-Thomas, later to make a world-wide name for himself as lead singer with Blood, Sweat and Tears.

A Go-Go ’66 debuted on CTV on Fridays at 8:30pm in the fall of 1965, and the series lasted for one year, evolving into “It’s Happening”(q.v.), in September 1966,when go-go dancing was no longer the in thing. It was produced for CTV at CFTO in Toronto. Produced and directed by Gerry Rochon.
