Case for the Court, A

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1960 to 1962

Aired during primetime, as a summer series from 1960 to 1962.

Produced in cooperation with the Canadian Bar Association, this series used fictional cases, real attorneys and real judges to introduce viewers to Canadian Law. Produced by George Dick and written by Alan King, actors were hired to improvise testimony based on each case history. Consequently all the characters, from police officers to defendants, offered their versions of the facts. A four person citizens’ panel discussed each case with the judge who made a final decision based on legal arguments and the panel’s comments.

Cases ranged from tax evasion, wills, criminal negligence, sexual assault and extortion.
