ET Canada

Network: Global Television Network

Broadcast Run: 2005

Broadcast Medium: Television

In partnership with its popular U.S. counterpart Entertainment Tonight (ET), Entertainment Tonight Canada (ET Canada) was an entertainment newsmagazine show that began on Global Television in fall 2005.  The daily half-hour show was hosted by Global entertainment veteran reporter Cheryl Hickey, along with co-host  Rick Campanelli (former MuchMusic VJ), and reporters Rosey Edeh (former on-air talent for CNN, NBC and CTV’s ‘E-Talk Daily’), Kim D’Eon (former reporter for CBC’s ‘The Hour’) and Roz Weston (former senior reporter for Toronto 1’s ‘A-list’).

ET Canada played an important role in showcasing Canadian talent while trying to further Canada’s reputation as an entertainment and celebrity hotspot.  The majority of daily stories featured the latest news about Canadian stars working in both Canada and the U.S., along with American celebrities filming in Canada, and included coverage of news events and stories in film, television, music, fashion, literature and interactive media.  On location segments, especially those shot around award shows across North America, were also a key element.

Entertainment Tonight began in 1980, and became the #1 syndicated entertainment newsmagazine show in the world, produced by CBS Paramount International Television. ET Canada was produced locally by Global Television.  Although ET Canada had a distinctive Canadian feel, there were common elements used including graphics and the signature ET theme song.

ET Canada enjoyed exclusive access to the ET archives.
