Fox Sportsworld Canada

In December 2000 the Global Television Network was granted a licence to operate a new specialty channel to be called Fox Sportsworld Canada, with programming to be confined exclusively to cricket, soccer and rugby.  The channel was launched in September 2001, and quickly made soccer the predominant sport in its schedules.  Although contracts with competing Canadian channels made access to the English Premier League very limited, Fox was able to secure a reasonable number of English league and cup games, as well as being able to contract for top quality matches from several European and South American countries. Cricket and rugby were seen only on a very limited scale. In 2010, Shaw Communications acquired CanWest. Fox Sports World Canada ceased operations at midnight on April 30, 2012.
