In The Making

Network:

Broadcast Run: 2019

In The Making was created and hosted by Sean O’Neill, who  “took Canadians around the world for an intimate and story-driven journey inside the creative process of Canada’s leading artists.”   The eight-half-hour series premiered on Friday, September 21, 2018, with individual episodes broadcasting weekly each Friday at 8:30 p.m on CBC.

O’Neill took a sabbatical from his role as Director of Public Programs and Partnerships at the Art Gallery of Ontario to produce the series, and the first eight episodes followed eight artists working across the artistic spectrum—in dance, theatre, visual art, and music—across Canada and around the world as they faced challenges, realized new works, and met moments of risk and reward.

The artists featured in the first series included Toronto-based musician Lido Pimienta, Vancouver choreographer Crystal Pite,Visual artist Adrian Stimson, Montreal dancer and choreographer Dana Michel, Montreal-born musician Chilly Gonzales, Edmonton-born visual artist Curtis Talwst Santiago, Mohawk photographer and visual artist Shelley Niro, and Visual artist Divya Mehra.

The series was produced by White Pine Pictures, created by Sean O’Neill, Peter Raymont and Nancy Lang and produced by Sean O’Neill and Michelle Mama. On March 25th 2019, the CBC announced that it had commissioned a further eight half-hour episodes of In The Making for the 2019 season.
