Deux frères told the story of Gabriel (Daniel Thomas) and Zacharie (Benoît Langlais) who went back to living together, after having lived apart for nearly seven years. The series Deux frères was an eye-opener in the world of television thanks to its visual approach and style, and especially due to its scenario that drew a realistic and poignant portrait of the world of young people.
Everything was aligned to separate these two 15-year old and 19-year old brothers: their personalities, their values and their lifestyle. However, tragic events would turn both their worlds upside down and tie their destinies together and impose a cohesive interdependence upon them.
Twenty-four 60-minute episodes of this dramatic series, written by Anne Boyer and Michel D’Astous, and directed by Louis Choquette, were broadcast on TVA from 1999 to 2001. The series was dubbed in English under the name of Brothers.
The leading actors were Daniel Thomas, Benoît Langlais, Élise Guilbault, Normand Chouinard, Karine Vanasse and Marc Beaupré. Deux frères won numerous awards: six Gémeaux awards in 2000 and 2001, including two for the Best Achievement in Sound, two for the Best Achievement in Cinematography, the Best Achievement in Writing in a Dramatic Series and Best Actor, as well as the Ruban d’Or 2000/2001 (TVA) award, the Telefilm Canada – Banff Festival award in 2001 and the “Media” Gaston Gauthier Family award in 2000.
