Lonestar Logo

CanWest Global received a licence in November 2000 for a cable speciality channel to be called Adventure, and to be devoted to action adventure programming. When it was launched in 2001, the name of the channel had been changed to Lonestar, and the main thrust of its programming was westerns, both classic and modern movies and television series. The schedule included such Canadian series as Bordertown, the Campbells and Lonesome Dove, and US classics like Bonanza, Daniel Boone and Gunsmoke, as well as a whole range of legendary theatrical westerns. In August 2008 it was announced that Lonestar would be rebranded as Movie Time, and relaunched on October 6th 2008. In 2010, Shaw Communications acquired CanWest. In 2016, Shaw Media was acquired by Corus Entertainment.
