Maclean’s TV

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1997 to 2000

Broadcast Medium: Television

Pamela Wallin hosted this weekly half-hour series, which was in essence a television version of the magazine whose name it bore. It was first launched on CTV’s Newsworld specialty channel, and later moved to the full network.

Each episode was divided into magazine-like segments, Cover Story, National Affairs, Business Report and Entertainment among them, with a weekly Honour Roll segment profiling individual Canadians’ achievements in their chosen fields, and a Last Word from the Editor-in-Chief. Reporters and columnists from the magazine appeared from time to time, as well as high-profile guests on various topical matters. Several Canadian Honour Roll specials were also produced as a spin-off.

Despite the almost infomercial appearance of the program, with the Maclean’s logo frequently in shot behind Pamela Wallin, the show attracted support from some heavy-hitter advertisers, including Chrysler, Royal Bank Financial Services and Nokia.

The series was produced in Toronto by Catherine Tamas of the Current Affairs Group, in cooperation with Maclean’s, was directed by Sidney Cohen, and the Executive Producer was Jack Fleischmann.  Maclean’s TV was seen on Sunday mornings at 11:30am on CTV from September 1997 through June 1999, and again from September 1999 to June 2000.
