Moods of Man

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1968

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Sunday afternoons from March 3 to June 30, 1968

Produced in Vancouver, this 30 minute program featured the talents of Jim Johnson, singer and guitarist, and Harry Aoki, bass player. The two had a regular radio show dedicated to roots music that was adapted to television for this short run.

Each show had a particular theme, that allowed the duo to choose a variety of music not usually heard on one program. The theme titles often suggested the tone or mood of the show: songs of trouble and hope, songs of the loved and loveless, songs for young people, songs for hoboes, railroaders and wayfarers and songs for Easter. Folk, blues, gospel and some classical music was the norm, much like their radio show, which was called Wandering. Guests included local singers such as Ann Mortifee, Eleanor Collins and Doug Parker.

Even with the success of the show and their live performances, the duo never quit their day jobs. Johnson continued to work as a teacher and Aoki as a systems analyst for B.C. Hydro.
