Movieola

In November 2000, Boxer Four Entertainment Inc. was awarded a cable speciality channel license for a service to be called The Short Film Channel.  The channel launched in September 2001 as Movieola – The Short Film Channel, now owned by Channel Zero, operating from within Stornoway Communications.   Movieola was to be “dedicated exclusively to short films, the film-makers, the subjects, the festivals and the technical aspects of their film-making.” No film was to be longer than forty minutes. In October 2001 Stornoway Communications announced that it was applying to acquire a controlling interest in Movieola, but by April 2002 the proposed new relationship had foundered, and Channel Zero retained sole ownership.

Channel Zero also operated the Silver Screen Classics channel, plus three adult channels.  In December 2007 the company was given licences for two new channels, Movie Trailer TV and Short Form TV, but as of March 2014 these had not yet been launched.

Channel Zero was scheduled for a CRTC hearing on April 28th on an application for corporate reorganization, but the Commission indicated that it had concerns about Channel Zero’s apparent non-compliance with conditions of licence for some of their specialty channels.
