Our World

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1969 to 1970

Broadcast Medium: Television

Although in 1969 Charles Templeton had just left his job as Director of News and Information for CTV, he continued to be available for consultation, and he became the host of a network half-hour documentary series called Our World.

The producers of Our World were Jerry Lawton and Susan Dexter. The series offered a roughly two-thirds/one-third mix of CTV-produced documentaries and foreign (often UK) acquisitions, with Lawton and Dexter alternating as producers of the Canadian programs. Among the many subjects tackled was John Diefenbaker’s Ottawa, with The Chief conducting viewers on a tour of the Parliament Buildings and sharing his knowledge of their history. Another was Stanley Burke’s Biafra, which followed the former CBC newsman as he worked among the poor and needy in that nation.

Our World had a one-year run on CTV in the 1969-70 season, being scheduled on Tuesdays at 10:30pm.
