Champagne, Liette (1948- )
Liette’s career in broadcasting dates from 1973 when she joined Telemedia Radio Inc., the owner of the venerable Montreal AM station CKAC and Sherbrooke’s CHLT AM. With Telemedia’s expanding ownership of radio stations over the years, Liette took on a variety of senior management positions in the operation of the stations, including the general managership of CITF FM in Quebec City.
In 1998, Liette was appointed Executive Vice-President of Telemedia Radio (Québec), responsible for the operations of all of the firm’s stations in Quebec, which included the group of six very successful RockDétente FM stations and the AM stations in Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivières. Coincidentally, she continued to serve as Vice President, Government Affairs of Telemedia, and on the Board of Directors of Radiomédia, (jointly owned with Group Radio Astral) which operates CKAC AM.
Actively involved in broadcasting industry associations and committees, Liette became the first woman to be elected to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, serving for fourteen years. In 1989 and 1992, she chaired the CAB’s Radio Board. She has also been a director of the Quebec Press Council, and a director of the Association Canadienne de la radio et de la télévision de langue française (ACRTF).
Liette’s commitment to the cultural enrichment of her community includes serving as a director and vice president of La Société du Grand Théâtre de Québec, and a director of Le Musée de la Civilisation.
In 2002, Liette Champagne was inducted into the CAB Broadcast Hall of Fame.
