1964

On March 23, Skeena Broadcasters, which was founded in 1960 by J. Fred Weber, opened CKTK operating on 1230 kHz with a power of 1,000 watts day and 250 watts night.  The station was an expansion of CFTK Terrace and offered programming from its own studios and from CFTK.

1984

CKTK was granted a night-time power increase to 1,000 watts. 

1986-87

The corporate name changed to Okanagan Skeena Group Limited.

1999

Okanagan Skeena Group Ltd. was purchased by Telemedia Radio Inc. 

2001

Doug Anderson was now general manager. He had been operations manager at CFQX Winnipeg.

Rod Sterling was gone as program director for CFTK, CHTK, CKTK and CJFW.

2002

Standard Radio Inc. purchased the Western and Ontario operations of Telemedia. Some stations were then sold to other companies but SRI retained the Okanagan Skeena group.  Skeena founder Fred Weber died on May 7 in West Vancouver.  On December 12, CKTK was given approval to convert to the FM band, operating on 97.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 170 watts.  It was authorized to simulcast its new FM signal on its old AM frequency for a period of six months.

2004

In February, the station moved to FM 97.7 with an adult contemporary music format, identifying as “The Mix”, with “The Best of the 80’s, 90’s and Now”.  Local programming included news and coverage of community events and activities.

2007

On September 27, Astral Media Radio G.P. received CRTC approval to acquire the assets of the radio and TV undertakings owned by Standard Radio Ltd., subject to certain conditions.  The purchase included CKTK-FM. 

2010

On May 31, the CRTC renewed the broadcasting licence for CKTK-FM Kitimat from 1 June 2010 to 31 August 2013. This short-term renewal would enable the Commission to review at an earlier date the licensee’s compliance with its conditions of licence, including that relating to its contributions to Canadian content development.

2011

Astral Radio and Television BC North has rebranded their MIX stations in Terrace, Kitimat and Prince Rupert to EZ ROCK and an AM to FM flip of CHTK in Prince Rupert. The events included parties in Terrace and Prince Rupert over a two day period. 

Roy McKenzie, the regional sales manager for Astral’s B.C. Interior stations, was no longer with the company. His position was eliminated.

2012

Janine Kraft, Brand Director at Astral Radio BC North, worked her last day there October 4. Kraft had been with the operation for the past 11 years, the last two as BD. She left for opportunities outside broadcasting.

2013

On June 27, 2013, after a previous such application had been denied in 2012, the CRTC approved an application by Astral Media Inc. to sell its pay and specialty television channels, conventional television stations and radio stations to BCE Inc., including CKTK-FM.
