2005

On April 15, the CRTC approved application by Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) to operate an English-language FM developmental community radio station in Nakusp.  The new station was to broadcast an average 105 hours of programming per week, consisting of advertising, public affairs, tourist information, news and weather.  Programming was to showcase local musicians, poets and other performing artists, as well as that produced by students of the local secondary school.  Volunteers were to consist of students and members from the community.  The station was licensed to operate at 107.1 MHz with an effective radiated power of 1.6 watts, which covers a 15 mile radius around the Village of Nakusp.

After testing, which began in the summer, official on-air date was September 5.

2010

On June 11, the CRTC approved the application by Nakusp Roots Music Society for authority to acquire from Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy the assets of the English-language low-power Type B community FM radio programming undertaking CJHQ-FM Nakusp and for a broadcasting licence to continue the operation of the undertaking under the same terms and conditions as those set out in the current licence. As explained by the applicant, Alliance, the vendor, is a not-for-profit society that supports the development of healthy learning communities throughout the Columbia Basin. In accordance with this mandate, Alliance promotes and develops work in the Columbia Basin to enhance literacy through fully accessible programs and services. However, Alliance has had only limited resources and staff to manage the radio station since its inception. In 2008, the only staff person Alliance assigned to manage the station left her employment and no other staff at that organization expressed an interest in the position. Alliance then requested that the Nakusp Roots Music Society step in and purchase the station. The purchaser is prepared to offer the dedication and support necessary to enable the station to continue to grow, including training, professional support and volunteer recruitment.

CJHQ re-branded from “Mountain Radio” to “The Arrow”.

2014

On February 26, the CRTC approved an application by Nakusp Community Radio Society for authority to acquire from Nakusp Roots Music Society the assets of CJHQ-FM.
