1964

Okanagan FM Broadcasters Ltd. opened CJOV-FM on 104.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 3,800 watts. The FM station played classical and semi-classical music, album cuts and the kinds of music that had long since left the AM band. The FM transmitter was on Okanagan Mountain at a height of 5,254 feet. Okanagan FM Broadcasters was owned by Okanagan Broadcasters Ltd., licensee of CKOV-AM.

1969

CJOV was programming 63 hours a week of separate programming from CKOV-AM. The station was automated Monday-Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 6-midnight and Sunday from 7 a.m. to midnight. C.F. Patrick was CKOV-AM-FM station manager.

On October 3, Okanagan FM Broadcasters Ltd. was authorized to decrease CJOV-FM’s antenna height from a new site, from 2,433 to 1,611 feet.

Undated

CJOV-FM became CHIM-FM and the corporate name (for FM only) changed to Okanagan FM Broadcasters Ltd.

1985

CHIM was granted an increase in power from 4,300 to 11,000 watts.

1988

Okanagan FM Broadcasters Ltd. was purchased by Seacoast Communications Group Inc., owner of C-FAX Victoria.

Bob Bye took over as program director at CHIM-FM.

1989

CHIM-FM became CKLZ-FM.

1991

Erin Chase joined CKLZ-FM’s on-air staff (and host of “Canada Rocks”).

Terry Spence was named vice president and operations manager for Seacoast Communications Group Inc. (CFAX, CKOV/CKLZ-FM).

1995

Dean Cooper was General Manager of The Lizzard / CKOV.

1998

Bruce Smith left CKLZ/CKOV as news director to become assignment editor at CHBC-TV in Kelowna.

On June 30 the CRTC approved the applications by Jim Pattison Industries Ltd., on behalf of 549501 British Columbia Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Seacoast Communications Group Incorporated, for authority to acquire the assets CKLZ-FM and CKOV Kelowna from Seacoast. Pattison would purchase 100 common shares and retain Seacoast Communication Group’s management services and non-competitive agreements with its employees.

1999

On July 14 the CRTC approved the application by Jim Pattison Industries Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jim Pattison Ltd., for authority to acquire the assets of CKLZ-FM and CKOV Kelowna from 549501 British Columbia Ltd. This transaction was part of a corporate reorganization that called for the dissolution of 549501 BC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jim Pattison Industries Ltd.

Many in the area knew that a format change was coming to CKLZ-FM and the general feeling was that it would be Country. Not the case. CKLZ relaunched with a Classic Rock format as POWER 104.

2001

Rob Bye was program director at Power 104 / CKOV.

2007

CKLZ switched from Classic Rock to Active Rock, but held on to the Power 104 name.
