2008
On September 19, the CRTC approved an application by Parrsboro Radio Society for a broadcasting licence to operate an English-language, low-power Type B community FM radio programming undertaking in Parrsboro. PRS indicated that, during each broadcast week, the station would broadcast 126 hours of programming. The applicant also indicated that 100% of its programming would be locally produced. A Type B community radio station may not increase or decrease its total weekly broadcast time by more than 20% without prior approval. The new station would offer music programming consisting primarily of selections from content category 2 (Popular Music), with at least 40% of the musical selections broadcast per broadcast week to be drawn from subcategory 21 (Pop, rock and dance) and at least 25% of the musical selections broadcast per broadcast week to be drawn from subcategory 22 (Country and country-oriented). The applicant also indicated that at least 10% of the musical selections broadcast per broadcast week would be drawn from subcategory 32 (Folk and folk-oriented). PRS indicated that spoken word programming would consist of weather and news, as well as community events coverage, for example, town council meetings and high school sporting events. The applicant also committed to devote, in each broadcast week, not less than 25% of its news bulletins to local news, and 40% to regional news. With respect to the promotion of local artists, the applicant proposed to offer visibility to talent in its community, whether it relates to local and area musicians or local theatre groups. The applicant stated that it would provide training to people from the community who wish to have access to the airwaves, and that it plans to have a Volunteer Program Coordinator to help and assist in producing and training volunteers. The licence would expire 31 August 2015. The station would operate at 99.1 MHz (channel 256) with an effective radiated power of 50 watts.
2009
CICR-FM signed on the air in February (some say it went on the air a short time after being licensed in September of 2008).
2015
CICR-FM received a short-term CRTC licence renewal to August 31, 2017 due to non-compliance issues.
2018
On April 3, CICR received a short-term licence renewal from the CRTC to August 31, 2020. Continued instances of regulatory non-compliance were cited as the reason. In addition, the Commission issued mandatory orders requiring Parrsboro Radio Society to ensure that CICR-FM complied at all times with the Radio Regulations.
2020
On August 17, the CRTC renewed CICR-FM’s licence to September 1, 2022. This short-term renewal was due to ongoing issues of non-compliance.
