On June 27, Ottawa Media Inc. received approval to operate a new FM station at Hawkesbury. The station would offer a New Easy Listening format. CKHK-FM “107.7 The Jewel” signed on the air April 14 at 9:00 a.m. Studios and offices were at 1320 Main Street East. Ted Silver was program director. CKHK had an easy listening format. Ottawa Media Inc. was part of the Evanov Radio Group Inc. The format was standards-soft adult contemporary.

CKHK-FM received approval to decrease effective radiated power from 2,000 watts to 1,100 watts due to short-spacing issues. The station had proposed to change the transmitter site from Vankleek Hill, south of Hawkesbury to a new site at Calumet, QC. It was now decided that a power reduction from the original site would be enough.
