CKVL-FM

On March 10 the CRTC approved an application by La radio communautaire de LaSalle for a broadcasting licence to operate a Type B French-language community FM radio station in Montréal. The new station would operate at 100.1 MHz (channel 261A1) with an effective radiated power of 250 watts. The station would broadcast 126 hours of programming during each broadcast week, including at least 116 hours of programming produced by the station and 10 hours of programs acquired from other community radio stations. Although the primary language of broadcasting would be French, the applicant indicated that it would devote at least 18%, or 22 hours, of programming during each broadcast week to English-language programs. The station’s local programming would reflect the needs and interests of the community, including local and regional news, sports, weather, current events and features. The applicant indicated that, in the first year of operation, it planned to hire two full-time employees to act as the general manager and program director, as well as two part-time employees to serve as a program host and as an administrative support person. In addition, volunteers would be recruited for the station through on-air solicitation and through various media. The applicant would ensure that volunteers receive training and are supervised by the permanent staff to ensure complete compliance with the Community Radio Policy. The licence would expire 31 August 2012.
 

The station orginally planned to use the CKLS call sign but now changed the calls to CKVL (formerly used in Verdun).

FM 100,1 Radio LaSalle (CKVL) went on the air on January 8. 

On July 6, the CRTC approved the application by La radio communautaire de LaSalle to change the authorized contours of the French-language Type B community radio programming undertaking CKVL-FM Montréal (LaSalle Borough) by decreasing the average effective radiated power from 250 to 110 watts (by increasing the maximum ERP from 250 to 870 watts and the effective height of antenna above average terrain from -0.5 to 40.4 metres), by changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non-directional to directional and by relocating the studios and the transmitter site to LaSalle Borough City Hall. The licensee stated that the new technical parameters would improve the quality of the station’s signal for listeners residing in Montréal’s LaSalle Borough, who currently experience poor reception of CKVL-FM. The licensee added that this change was necessary in order to continue operating the station.

On August 8, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKVL-FM until August 31, 2013.
