Rolf Harris Show

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1976 to 1978

Broadcast Medium: Television

“Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” was the song that made Australian-born Rolf Harris internationally famous in 1960, and this multi-talented performer was quickly in international demand not just as a singer, but as an artist and comedian. He also played a weird and wondrous instrument known as a didgeridoo, and did a very funny comedy routine as Jake The Peg, a man with three legs.

When Rolf moved to Vancouver in the 1970s, CTV’s local affiliate BCTV quickly snapped him up for a half-hour television series, which took full advantage of Rolf’s many talents. Why it was not renewed after being scheduled as a summer replacement in 1978 is unclear, though costs or the ongoing availability of the performer – or both – are the most likely reasons.

The series was delivered to CTV affiliates at 6:30pm on Sundays in the spring and summer of 1978, but was scheduled variously in different markets. It was produced in the Vancouver studios of BCTV.
