Summertime ’57, ’58

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1957 to 1958

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Thursday evenings at 9:30 PM in 1957 and at 8:00 PM in 1958.

In an effort to provide continuity, as well as variety, this musical program replaced the Jackie Rae show for two summers.

Summertime ’57 was hosted by Bill Walker featuring the Jack Kane Orchestra.
Producer: Len Casey.

Summertime ’58 was a little more adventurous, featuring African-American performers who were rarely seen on American television networks. These performers included the Duke Ellington Quintet, Carmen McRae and the Chico Hamilton Quintet. Canadian musicians shared the bill, including groups led by Maynard Ferguson and Trump Davidson, Bobby Gimby and Phil Nimmons.
Producer: Norm Sedawie
