Their Springtime of Life

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1969 to 1970

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Tuesday nights from August 22 to September 12, 1972.

This series consisted of four hour-long segments, telling the story of the Canadian Army from 1910 to 1945. The producer and director was Frank Williams, based in Montreal. Archival footage was collected from the National Film Board of Canada and the Imperial War Museum, supplemented by film supplied by French and German sources.

The first two programs chronicled the Army’s history from 1910 to 1939, including its contributions during WW I. The next two shows told the story of the Canadian Army’s more specific contributions during WW II, namely, the D Day invasion and the Sicilian Campaign.

Bill Hawes acted as host and narrator of the series, which was edited by Armand Fortin.
