Roger Lemelin, creator of The Plouffe Family, wrote this middle-class drama about the Cheveliers of Quebec. The story told of an accountant and his family, looking to improve themselves from the gentry in the working class world. The kicker was the fact that Fred Chevelier, accountant, wasn’t earning enough money to maintain the new lifestyle of his wife Pauline, and three teen-age children. The drama unfolded as the youngest son joined a gang, the oldest son wanted to be a physician, while the family endured the social pressure of their rich neighbours. The series ran for 35 weeks; it wasn’t picked up for a second season on CBC, but did air on Radio-Canada.

While the series was produced in English and French, it did not succeed after one year on the English network.
