Travels With My Mom

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1996 to 1998

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Saturdays, at various times, from February 3, 1996 to December 28, 1996. Second series aired from January 10, 1998 to May 2, 1998.

This half-hour travel show chronicled one family on their journey across Canada. The filmmakers, Marnie Fullerton and Don Young of the Ottawa-based Alamadon Productions, hit the road with their three children and three cameras. In the spring of 1995, they started their 120 day adventure with a Betacam Hi-8 and a finger cam for their five-year-old, who brought a unique perspective of the world from three feet off the ground. When the trip ended on October 2nd, Fullerton and Young had 300 hours of footage to edit and package into 15 programs. The family reached every Canadian province and territory. The series was so successful, a second season aired two years later featuring the family on the road in the United States. Plans for a European tour weren’t realized. The show was a co-production of CBOT Ottawa.
