Wonder Why

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1990 to 1992

Broadcast Medium: Television

Each week, this imaginative children’s series took a single topic – Air, Television, Volcanoes, Energy, Computers and Robotics were typical subjects covered – and tried to answer all the questions which one might expect kids to ask about that subject.

Host Richard Zurawski was the resident expert, and young Liam Hyland was a regular as Question Mark, the detective who tried to help a weekly team of youngsters to get the answers to their questions.

While there was a basic studio set, much of the material was shot on location as Zurawski went out to get the answers from experts in each field. He would also interview kids on their street for their take on the matter under discussion.

Notable about this particular series was that it was one of the few productions from CTV’s Maritime affiliate group ATV in Halifax to secure a network slot. Wonder Why debuted on the network on Saturdays at 8:30am in the fall of 1990, and probably deserved more than its two-year run.
